Crops yeild along riverbanks turns profitable in Narail

NARAIL, Feb 24 (BSS): Cultivation of winter vegetables, groundnut, Aman and Boro paddies along five riverbanks in three upazilas of Narail district has turned into a profitable venture for many farmers. Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said a good number of farmers have earned satisfactory profit by farming these crops with small investment. The farmers of Narail Sadar, Lohagora and Kalia upazilas produced 15,500 tonnes of paddy from 2,800 hectares of land,10,500 tonnes of winter vegetables from 820 hectares of land and 400 tonnes of groundnut from 400 hectares during the last season. These lands are situated near the rivers Nabaganga, Chitra, Madhumati, Afra and Kazla. Some farmers of the district told this correspondent that they had not applied fertilisers and pesticides on land along the riversides for the cultivation of vegetables and other crops.
