Crushing begins in Shyampur, Joypurhat sugar mills

RANGPUR, Nov 23 (BSS): Crushing of sugarcane at Shyampur
Sugar Mills (SSM) in Rangpur and Joypurhat Sugar Mills (JSM) in Joypurhat began Friday with a production target of 19,880 tonnes of sugar by crushing 0.265 million tonnes of sugarcane during the current season, officials said.
Sugarcane growers and workers of the mills formally launched crushing of the sugarcanes in presence of farmers and officials.
Managing directors Masudar Rahman of SSM and Abdul Haque of JSM attended separate sugarcane crushing ceremonies on the mills premises.
Deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, senior officials, journalists, elite, officials and employees of the sugar mills and sugarcane growers were present on the occasions.
The SSM has set a target of producing 6,930 tonnes of sugar by crushing 90,000 tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 7.7 per cent while the JSM will produce 12,950 tonnes sugar through crushing 0.125 million tonnes of sugarcanes with a recovery rate of 7.4 per cent during this season.
