Ctg 8-murder convicts acquitted

Overturning the trial court verdict, the High Court on Thursday acquitted all the four condemned convicts in the sensation eight BCL men killing case of Chittagong. A designated HC death reference division bench comprising Justice Abdul Hye and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order after hearing the appeals filed by the convicts against the lower court verdict. Those who got the acquittal are Sajjad Hossain Khan, Alamgir Kabir, Azam and M Solaiman. On July 12, 2000, eight leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League were gunned down by miscreants in a microbus in Bahaddarhat of the port city. During investigation, it was found that the Islami Chhatra Shibir men carried out the massacre. On March 27, 2008, a trial court sentenced four people to death and three others to life in the murder case. The lifers are still on the run. Later, the condemned convicts moved the High Court against the trial court verdict, according to UNB.
