Wednesday, 24 December 2014

Chittagong's Hazrat Shah Amanat (R) International Airport plunged into darkness on Wednesday morning due a 2-and-half-hour blackout for unknown reason. The power failure for more than 2 hours halted all the activities at the country’s 2nd largest international airport. However, the activities at Hazrat Shah Amanat (R) International Airport came back to normal around 8:30, a couple of hours after the sudden blackout started. A source at the airport said around 6:00am, the electricity supply distribution panel of the airport hanged due to technical glitch, causing the situation. As a result, the entire area of the airport experienced a power outage, bringing all activities at the airport to a halt. Wing commander Nur-e-Alam, manager of the airport, said hanging of the electricity supply distribution panel led to severe delay in the operation of 2 flights of 2 renowned international airlines at the airport. Power was restored around 8:30am after the 2-and-half hours’ disruption, according to a news agency.
