Ctg bus fare rises from Jan 10

CHITTAGONG, Jan 8: The bus owners operating on different routes in Chittagong district have decided to raise the bus fare from January 10. There are over 25 routes connecting the port city with different adjoining upazilas and the districts of Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Cox's Bazar.
Fares of bus, minibus and special buses will be raised from Tk 1.20 to Tk. 1.35 per kilo metre, leaders of the Chittagong Road Transport Owners' Association said at a press conference on Saturday evening.
Chief advisor of the association Abul Kalam Azad told the press conference that the government has enhanced the fuel price which has affected the transport sector badly.
"The bus-minibus owners in the private sector have been facing a lot of problems due to unusual hike of the price of tyre-tubes, excessive income tax on spare parts and road tax, fitness, etc. At this time the government has enhanced the fuel price," he said.
He said that the government has also decided to enhance the bus fare by 15 paisa per kilo metre which will also be effective from January 10. "Before that none of this association will raise the bus fare," he said.
The press conference was addressed by general secretary of the association Md Yunus and general secretary of Arakan Road Transport Workers’ Union Md Musa.
