Ctg bus owners realising excess fares

CHITTAGONG, July 10: An anarchic situation has been created in the transport sector of the port city because of realisation of excess bus fares from passengers.
The unilateral decision of fixing bus fares by the Transport Owners Forum (TOF) during current state of emergency in the country rather agitated and embarrassed the passengers community, concerned sources said.
Incidents of brawls between passengers and bus-employees because of the realisation of the excess fare and rampage took place at the different areas of the city including adjoining areas of the district.
However, in the situation, a sitting was held between the administration and TOF leaders and minimum fare of CNG driven buses and mini buses was refixed at taka 3 and that of diesel driven buses was fixed at taka 1.08 per kilometre.
In view of recent price hike of fuel-oil, the fares of buses, mini-buses was refixed by the government. But in practice on the plea of price hike in fuel oil, buses operating in the city under TOF are realising excess fares. Such a whimsical decision of realising fares at the enhanced rate without providing minimum facilities to the passengers, it had aggravated the sufferings of the passengers, different sources said.
