Ctg businesses for immediate automation in taxation system

CHITTAGONG, Aug 16: Exporters and importers here called at Chittagong Customs House (CCH) for immediate introduction of automation in taxation system and described it as a time-befitting measure. Such was the reaction of businessmen attending a meeting on the proposed automation in taxation system at CCH arranged at CCH conference room in the city yesterday.
The Customs authority and the Joint Forces told the meeting that there is no alternative to simplification of the taxation system in augmenting the volume of revenue income of the government. The very aim of the new project is not only to enhance the revenue of the government rather it is meant for bringing change in the entire process through systematic reforms and thus rootingout corruption and irregularities.
Moreover all concerned stakeholders including shipping agents, C&F agents would be included in the implementation process of the project, the meeting was told.
The initiative, when implemented, would reduce by more than fifty per cent the time required in submitting bill of entry and also reduce 80 percent expenditure of the businessmen. On the other hand transparency and accountability in the entire system would be increased many times, the meeting was further told.
Newly appointed Customs Commissioner Lutfur Rahman, outgoing Commissioner Fariduddin, Joint Commissioner Motiur Rahman, senior officials of Customs and Joint Forces and representatives of Port Users Organisations among others spoke in the meeting.
