CHATTOGRAM, Sept 13: The businessmen of Chattogram have declared that if the government does not withdraw the load control stations (LCS), set up on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in June 2018, within next one month, they would take a tough stance.
As part of their continuous movement, they would call strike and stop carrying all kinds of goods from Chattogram and Chattogram Port to other districts.
The business leaders declared these in a view-exchange meeting of Khatunganj Trade and Industries Association (KTIA) on Monday afternoon.
KTIA and Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mahbubul Alam chaired the meeting.
He said, "From CCCI, we informed the matter to the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader several times. He gave assurance to withdraw the weighing scales from Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
"It is a clear discrimination for the businessmen of Chattogram. We demand either setting up LCS on the country's 34 other highways or withdrawing those from Dhaka-Chattogram Highway."
"Trucks and lorries can carry only 13 tonnes of goods on the highway, whereas vehicles can carry 25 tonnes of goods on other highways." "The trade and business of Chattogram are decreasing day by day, as the traders cannot supply their imported goods to other districts smoothly due to the weighing scales," Mr Alam noted.
