Saturday, 25 April 2009
Chittagong Chemical Complex (CCC), the lone specialised public sector industrial chemical producing unit, reopened Friday after seven years, reports BSS.
Industries Minister Dilip Barua formally re-opened the CCC at Barobkundu under Sitakundu upazila as the chief guest, as part of the government's plan to reopen all mills and factories closed by the previous governments.
Speaking on the occasion Dilip Barua said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her recent meeting at the industries ministry directed him for re-opening the closed factories across the country for the greater interest of the nation and workers.
The industries minister said as per the directives of the Prime Minister and to fulfil the 'Vision 2021', the CCC has been reopened. The factory will go to its full production before December this year after proper maintenance, he added.
With BCIC Chairman ABM Khurshed Alam in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Shipping Minister Dr Afsarul Amin, MP, ABM Abul Kashem Master, MP, Mainuddin Khan
Badal, MP, MA Latif, MP, Sitakundhu upazila chairman Abdullah Al Baker Bhuiyan, Mirsarai upazila chairman Mohammad Gias Uddin, Rauzan upazila chairman Eshanul Haider Babul, and senior officials of the CCC.
Afsarul Amin said the BNP-Jamaat alliance shut down the mills and factories in the country, but Sheikh Hasina-led present government started reopening the closed mills and factories within three months of assuming office by inaugurating the CCC.
ABM Abul Kashem Master said the BNP-Jamaat government had closed down once-profitable CCC, alleging mismanagement and losses. But the present government reopened the factory for the sake of saving important public sector enterprises and allowing the unemployed workers resume their work again.
The previous alliance government suspended the production of the CCC on November 15, 2002, as it was incurring a huge loss.
