CHITTAGONG, Dec 8: Chittagong city Awami League has warned its treasurer and chairman of Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Abdus Salam of violating discipline in the party and anti-organisation activities.
A letter of the party in this connection has been sent to Abdus Salam personally and in his official address by post on Sunday afternoon, party sources said.
General Secretary of city AL AJM Nasir Uddin told the media last night that allegations have been brought against Abdus Salam over taking benefits abusing the post of treasurer of the party unit but without participating in the regular activities of the party.
He said Abdus Salam is also publishing names and photographs of the AL-supported elected councillors of Chittagong City Corporation allegedly against the knowledge of the councillors which they have objected.
Leaders of city AL have termed his recent activities anti-organisational, said AJM Nasir adding that the leaders have objected to such activities. Stating all these issues they have sent a letter to the CDA chairman on Sunday afternoon, he said.
"This is not a show cause notice. Rather he has been warned of keeping himself away from such activities as he is holding a key post in the party. If he continues such activities, organisatinal steps will be taken against him," he said.
Admitting that he has received a letter from the party unit, Salam said he has held an indoor meeting at Lal Khan Bazar area in the city. He declined to give details about the allegations brought against him. It may be mentioned that a meeting of the party's working committee of the unit was held on December 4 last with president of the party ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the chair.
The meeting unanimously decided to issue a letter to the treasurer. In the light of that meeting the letter has been issued warning the treasurer. AJM Nasir further said the city AL leaders faced the programmes of destruction in the name of movement by the BNP-Jamaat leaders and workers before 5 January (2014) general election. But Abdus Salam did not take part in any of those party programmes during that period.
Abdus Salam even did not take part in any party activity during the hartals called by the Jamaat-e-Islami leaders against the ICT (International Crimes Tribunal) verdicts for atrocities and crimes against humanity of the collaborators of Pakistanis (rajakars and al-Badars) during the Liberation War of 1971.
