Ctg city needs more schools, colleges

CHITTAGONG, March 22: The number of population in Chittagong city increased 10 fold during the last 36 years since independence, but no new government school or college has been established during the period.
Chittagong city area at present is 155 square miles while all the standard schools and colleges are based within six square miles area in the city.
Number of government managed secondary schools is nine and that of college is five only while all the educational institutions are located in eight wards out of 41 wards of Chittagong City Corporation area. But the remaining 33 wards have no standard school and college.
The privately managed Ispahani Public School and College and Bangladesh Women Association (BAWA) Girls School and College are reputed and prestigious institutions but those are located in the areas where government-managed institutions are also located.
One official of the district education office said the private schools and colleges achieving the desired standard, dependence on government managed institutions would be reduced remarkably.
