Our Correspondent CHITTAGONG, Dec 18: The Customs authority has detained a container for allegedly importing goods on false declaration. The container laden with motor parts was detained at the jetty of Chittagong Container Terminal at around 12.30 am on Saturday night. The consignment under false declaration was detected on the screening system installed at the jetty gate 2 at the CCT, concerned sources said. Officials at the AIR (audit investigation and research) of the Chittagong Custom House said that Gultex Ltd of Savar Export Processing Zone had imported a container-load of motor parts under declaration of textile fabrics. Shimul International Ltd, the C&F Agent for the importer, did not submit documents but was in a hurry to take delivery of the goods on Saturday night that caused doubts, officials said. A three-member committee has been formed with Jewel Ahmed, joint commissioner of the Chittagong Custom House, as its head. Other members of the committee are AIR official Umar Faruk and assistant customs officer Shahidul Islam.
