CHITTAGONG, June 04: Chittagong Customs House (CCH) earned Tk 139.23 billion revenue in the fiscal 2007-2008, which was Tk 5.23 billion more than the target.

Following continuos failure for last four years, the CCH has been able to realise revenue worth Tk 5.23 billion in excess of the target, which is more than the target set by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) for realisation of government revenue, sources said.

Concerned sources said in view of different ongoing reformative measures and intensive vigilance by Task Forces the figure of revenue collection has increased sharply and the long practised tendency of evasion of duties and taxes by the concerned importers had largely been absent in the face constant vigilance by the joint forces.

On the other hand, Customs, Exercise and value added tax (VAT) and Bond Commissionerate during the last fiscal realised more than Tk 14.50 billion revenue from Chittagong which was Tk 550 million more than the target.
