CHITTAGONG, Jul 26: Chittagong Customs House (CCH) is set to introduce automation system in taxation involving Taka 117.5 million within the next six months, CCH sources said.
Meanwhile, with a view to ensuring prompt and improved services through developing efficient manpower on contract basis, the initiative of handing over the data section of the CCH to the private sector, has been undertaken. A six-member committee, comprising representatives of different business organisations , is being formed immediately for the purpose.
According to CCH sources, in case of taxation of different items of imported goods, the existing manual system stands as a big barrier to efficient realisation of revenue. As there is no alternative to automation in bringing dynamism in the field of realising revenue, CCH has undertaken proper steps for introducing automation in the taxation system.
The newly devised project is likely to be implemented at the own expenses of the CCH within the next six months. With the implementation of the automation system , the importers would be able to fulfil their taxation-related formalities through submission of online bill of entry from anywhere. It would also save the importers from excess consumption of time and other hassles and sufferings, sources added.
As the existing technological facilities available at CCH cannot serve the purpose, it has rather become essential to deploy a good number of efficient hands for making the data section of CCH more effective. With the launching of automation system in taxation in a full-fledged manner, CCH which is a top revenue earner for the public exchequer, will enter into a new era, sources claimed.
