Chittagong’s railway links with Dhaka and Sylhet have been restored five hours after a freight train derailed in Feni district. Trains between Bangladesh’s major cities started using an alternative track on a limited scale shortly after 9:00am on Wednesday, said Mustafizur Rahman, an engineer of Feni Railway Station. The coach of the cargo train had jumped track near Feni Railway Station around 4:15am on Wednesday. The Dhaka-bound ‘Suborno Express’ coming from Chittagong that was stranded at Feni station left for its destination, Rahman said. It may take several hours to remove the derailed coach from the track, he said. A rescue train from Laksam rushed to the spot around 7:00am and started work, according to bdnews24.com.
