CHITTAGONG, July 28: Rail lines of Chittagong-Dohazari and Chittagong-Nazirhat have attained deplorable condition due to utter negligence of the concerned authority.
Railway bridges are also in a dilapidated condition; and the trains equipped with the time-expired engines have to run over the tracks very slowly shouldering constant risks of accidents, concerned sources said.
Train service launched its journey in the Indian sub-continent around 180 years back. Even on expiry of long period, train service on these routes has failed to offer facilities to the passengers up to the desired standard.
Trains operating on these routes hardly follow the schedules. Due to shortage of engines time-schedule is cancelled frequently causing enormous sufferings to the passengers.
Non-functioning of the old engines and incidents of derailment have also made the train journey over the said routes hazardous and uncertain. It takes only one hour and some time more to reach Dohazari by road from Chittagong while it consumes three hours in reaching Dohazari Railway Station from Chittagong Station by train.
On the other hand, a passenger travelling by bus, needs to spend at best one hour to reach Nazirhat from Chittagong.
