Ctg election fever peaks before Feb 12

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 06: has gripped Chattogram ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election slated for 12 February. Campaigning by candidates and discussions among voters are at their peak, with supporters of candidates in the city's 16 constituencies holding processions almost daily. Both candidates and their supporters have intensified their campaigns in full swing.
The Election Commission (EC) office in Chattogram is fully prepared for the election. Training programmes for election officers have been completed, the voter list finalised, and ballot boxes and other election equipment have arrived in the city. The EC and local administration have made all-out preparations to ensure smooth voting and easy access to polling stations. All election materials, except ballot papers, have been sent to each constituency, and security has been strengthened across the city and district, EC sources said.
According to the Election Commission office, a total of 115 candidates from various political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party, NCP, and LDP, are contesting in Chattogram. Sources said 40,000 polling officers, including presiding, assistant presiding, and polling officers, have been trained to manage voting at 1,965 polling centers and 12,001 polling booths across the city's 16 JS constituencies.
Of the total 16 JS seats in Chattogram, Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin has been appointed the returning officer for 5 parliamentary constituencies in the port city, while Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah serves as the returning officer for 10 of the constituencies in the district.
The total number of voters in Chattogram's 16 JS seats is 6,682,517, including 3,483,877 male voters and 3,198,570 female voters. This election also includes 70 voters of the third gender.
Sources said Chattogram district has 1,562 polling centers across 10 full and 3 partial parliamentary constituencies, with partial areas of Chattogram-4, Chattogram-5, and Chattogram-8 under the jurisdiction of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC).
The polling centers are categorized as general, important, and more important, with 345 considered 'more important' or high-risk.
Chattogram district has 13 parliamentary constituencies, including the 3 partial city constituencies, covering 16 police stations. The highest number of risk centers -48 --is in Chattogram-4 (Sitakunda), while Chattogram-1 and Chattogram-2 have none.
