CHATTOGRAM, Aug 10: The weather in Chattogram has returned to normal after eight consecutive days of non-stop rainfall and flooding that disrupted daily life across the region.
The incessant downpour, which began on the early morning of August 2 in greater Chattogram, finally ceased on Wednesday night.
As a result, the accumulated rainwater started receding, gradually alleviating the waterlogged conditions by Thursday.
Traffic on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway, from Chandanaish to Satkania, has resumed after a two-day halt due to receding floodwaters. The disrupted road communication between Chattogram and Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Cox's Bazar was also restored on Wednesday night.
Rainwater and tidal surges from Arakan road, Hathazari and Raojan roads have receded, allowing vehicular movement to return to normalcy.
Khan Md Irfan, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Thana, said, "The water began receding after 11 pm last night [Wednesday night]. Now there is no water, and the traffic has returned to normal."
Sources have confirmed that loading and unloading activities at the outer anchorage of Chittagong seaport resumed early Thursday morning.
Furthermore, the transportation of goods from Chittagong port and jetties also recommenced on Thursday following the cessation of rainfall.
The relentless rain persisted for eight consecutive days until Wednesday, causing disruption in Chattogram and adjoining districts, including Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari, significantly affecting the lives of the locals.
