CHITTAGONG, Jul 12: Chittagong surpassed its tax realisation target as the port city collected Tk 740 million more than the target set for its three taxation zones during the fiscal 2006-2007 ended on June 30 last, sources said.
The target set was Tk 14.15 billion while the total realized sum was Tk 14.89 billion at the end of last fiscal.
According to sources, the tax realisation was about Tk 2.75 billion more than that of fiscal 2005-2006.
According to Chittagong tax administration sources, 0.3 million people of the region have so far been brought under the tax net while an equal number of eligible ones are still out of the net.
The concerned administration has reportedly started a survey programme for detecting tax evasion since July 5 last and around 0.3 million fresh eligible tax payers are expected to be brought under the tax net.
With the intensified drives, the tax administration is optimistic about boosting the tax volume of the region in the current fiscal, sources added.
