Ctg footpaths again occupied by hawkers

CHITTAGONG, July 20: Footpaths of the city have again been occupied by hawkers. Besides footpaths, floating shops have also occupied even a large portion of roads caring little for convenient movement of the vehicular traffic and commuters.

Though sufferings of people especially the passers-by increased greatly, the law enforcers are keeping mum over it.

It is observed that both sides of most of the city roads and footpaths are under the occupation of the floating hawkers where they have built safe haven for their business. The footpaths from in front of Municipal High School at New Market crossing up to Rifles Club Markets, are hardly visible where makeshift shops have been constructed by the floating hawkers.

Children's clothes, shirts and pants for the elderly people, vulgar CDs are being sold there at random. Buyers are seen rushing there throughout the day.

Unauthorised business by floating hawkers can be seen all over the city -- Reazuddin Bazar, Station Road, Laldighir Par, Anderkilla Crossing, Bahad-darhat and Sholashahar areas too.

Hawkers had been evicted from the footpaths after the caretaker government took over. But they had been allowed to trade in five selected holiday markets.
