CHITTAGONG Feb 18: The 16th Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF)-2008 begins at the Railway-Polo Ground in the port city tomorrow (Tuesday) .
In this connection, the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) organised a press conference at the Chamber House today.
Highlighting different aspects of the international trade fair, CCCI President Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said to enhance the volume of domestic and international trade and investment, including expansion of export market, the CCCI has been organising the fair every year.
Thailand is participating in the fair as the partner country with an attractive Thai pavilion.
Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said 36 pavilions were being installed with 262 different sized booths over around 4 million square feet fair ground regarded as the biggest trade fair under the private sector.
The CCCI President told the press that Adviser for the ministries of commerce and education Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman will inaugurate the show as the chief guest while Syed Manzur Elahi, administrtor of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), will be present as the special guest on the occasion.
CCCI Senior Vice President MA Latif said, "Creating opportunities for Business Linkage" was the theme of the fair this year.
He said for the convenience of the women, a separate counter had been set up which would be conducted by the women exclusively.
A permanent police camp has been set up, including deployment of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, on round the clock basis to ensure unhindered security.
The CITF Committee has fixed ticket prices at Tk 10 for the adults and Tk 5 for tender-aged visitors.
The press conference was attended, among others, by the CCCI Vice-President Mahbub Alam, its directors Amirul Hoque, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury, Mahfuzul Hoque Shah and Nasiruddin Chowdhury .
