Ctg JL leader Hashem was murdered, say police

Monday, 7 May 2018

Police say Jubo League leader Abul Hashem, who died in a fire incident in Chattogram's Rangunia, was actually murdered, reports bdnews24.com.
"It was not an accident, it was murder," said Chattogram District Police Additional Superintendent (Sadar) Rezaul Masud told the news agency on Sunday. "One person has been detained over the incident."
The detainee, Zifu Begum, 35, is a local resident. Police learned during an initial interrogation that she had a 'passing acquaintance' with Hashem and killed him after facing 'harassment' from the Jubo League leader.
Police recovered the burned body of Rangunia Upazila Vice President Abul Hashem Bachar, 50, from a home in Rangunia municipal area Ward-9's Ichamoti area on Friday.
At the time police had said they believed a gas leak had led to the fire.
"Hashem's whole body was burned," Rangunia Police Station OC Imtiaz Bhuiyan had told bdnews24.com that day. "There was a gas cylinder in the room. It was leaking. There were no windows in the building so the gas collected. The furniture also burned."
