CHITTAGONG, Nov 21: Land owners seeking building plan approvals from the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) have been increasing recently. More than four hundred applications have been submitted within the last few days which is much higher compared to any period in the past.
The reason behind the rush is to avoid the enforcement of the revised new rules for constructing buildings which is set to come into force after December 8 next. CDA sources said according to the revised rules, at least 20 feet wide road in front of a building is mandatory.
In case of lower breadth of the road, land owners on both sides must surrender their land equally so that the road can be broadened to 20 feet in breadth.
Apart from that, as per the new rule, three separate committees would monitor three times during the period of construction of the building leaving no scope of deviation. In case of any deviation, concerned engineer and architect would be accountable for that.
As the previous regulation with the provision of minimum 12 feet wide road still remains in force, owners of the land are in a last moment rush to avail of the opportunity.
CDA sources further said, the revised rules would help in implementing the master plan and with the enforcement of the new revised rule, small sized roads scattered in the city would be turned into bigger ones enhancing the overall beauty of the city.
