Ctg market fire kills three

CHATTOGRAM, June 28: Three persons were killed and two others severely injured in a fire incident that took place at Mohammadiya Market in Riazuddin Bazar of the port city of Chattogram early Friday.
The deceased were identified as Md Ridwan (45), Md Shahed (28) and Iqbal (26)- all hailing from Satkania upazila of the district.
The two persons with severe burn injuries were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Sources and locals said the fire orginated from an electric short circuit at around 1.30 am.
Kotowali thana police confirmed the death and identiteis of the victims.
Sub-inspector Nurul Alam of Chattogram Medical College Police Outpost said, "During the fire at Riazuddin Bazar, the injured could not get out of a five-storey building. They became unconscious inhaling smoke. After being brought to the hospital, doctors declared three of them dead. Among the injured, two women are admitted."
Abdur Razzak, deputy assistant director of Fire Service in Chattogram, said the fire orginated from an electric short circuit at a shop on the second floor of a four-story market building.
The fire quickly spread as two buildings named Rizwan Complex and Mohammadia  Plaza were side by side.
A total of eight fire fighting units managed to bring the blaze under control at around 5:30 am on Friday.
