CHITTAGONG, May 16 (BSS): The newly-elected mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) A J M Nasir Uddin declared on Saturday to remove all illegal billboards in the city in order to retain the natural beauty of the port city.
He said the CCC authority will remove not only the illegal billboards but also the authorised ones which were set up in unauthorised spots.
"I want to say clearly that all illegal billboards in the city will be removed. Not only the unauthorised hoardings but also the ones which are manipulated after getting permission from the city corporation will be removed", Nasir Uddin said adding that he had already directed the CCC officials not to permit anymore new billboard in the city.
The CCC mayor said this while inaugurating a Cleaning Programme arranged by Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) at Jameyatul Falah mosque.
The mayor said he will scrutinise the list of billboards in the city and make a separate list of unauthorised ones to remove those.
"Many took permission from the city corporation for setting up billboards but placed those in wrong spots. Besides, some billboards were set up in multiple sizes which were not permitted", he said adding that the CCC authority will also remove those manipulated billboards.
AJM Nasir Uddin also said he will seek suggestions from the experts relating to setting up of new billboards. "New billboards will be allowed as per advice of the experts. No new billboard will be permitted if the experts say 'no' to it", he added.
He also said he will publish advertisements on television urging the city dwellers to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
CMP commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondol and other high officials of CMP were present at the programme.
