CHITTAGONG, July 11 (BSS): Chittagong Medical College (CMC) has been closed sine die following clashes between Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) Thursday night, sources said.
Students left their hostels in the morning as the medical college authorities asked them to vacate their dormitories.
Sources said at least 12 students were injured in the clash within the CMC hostel, who were given first aid last night.
Police arrested three students from the main hostel.
The arrested were identified as Amitosh Das, an MBBS 1st year student of Barisal Medical College, Jahangir Alam, 5th year MBBS student and Nafiz Ahmed, 1st year MBBS student of the CMC.
The arrested students were produced before the court Friday.
The clash erupted when supporters of both the front organisations chased each other with sticks at 11 pm at the main hostel of the CMC over occupation of two seats in the hostel.
Sources said at least 10 rooms of the hostel were rampaged and torched by the rival students. Books, furniture and computers were burnt.
JCD and ICS blamed each other for the incident.
The CMC authorities called an emergency meeting of the academic council at 6 pm Friday to discuss the situation.
