CHITTAGONG, Aug 27: The conscious section of the Chittagong city dwellers are concerned as the Chittagong WASA realises excessive fees from the subscribers for installation of deep tubewells at personal initiative, though it fails to meet even one-third of the total need of water supply.
The conscious quarters termed disappointing the move of the Chittagong WASA about the subscribers' initiative to arrange water procurement on their own.
In sinking a deep tubewell, a domestic charge of Tk 70 thousand is paid to the WASA. The authority also realises Tk 50 thousand as renewal fee every year. In installation of a deep tubewell for a business purpose more than Tk 100 thousand (1.0 lakh) is spent. Chittagong WASA sources said, the total requirement of water in the port city is around 110 million gallons per day while the authority is able to supply only 40 million gallons.
