Ctg police chief asked to remove OC
Friday, 24 April 2015
Returning officer for Chittagong city polls has asked the city police chief to remove officer-in-charge (OC) of Khulshi thana within 24 hours, reports bdnews24.com.
The OC Mainul Islam Bhuyan has been accused of helping the ruling party candidates and of not taking adequate measures following attacks on a candidate supported by the 20-party alliance.
Returning officer Abdul Baten told the news agency: "A letter to remove Khulshi thana OC has been sent to the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner."
Baten said OC Bhuyan should not be engaged in any election-related duty and he should be replaced at Khulshi thana with a professionally competent officer whose integrity is not in doubt.
OC Bhuyan had been drawn into many controversies in recent weeks.
On April 16, Jamaat-supported councillor candidate Mahfuzul Alam's wife Khairul Janaat came under attack from supporters of a rival Mohd Hossain Hiron at the Wireless area in Chittagong's Pahartoli.
Janaat promptly filed a complaint with the police but later complained to the Returning officer that there was much delay at the police station in accepting her complaint.
