CHITTAGONG, Junes 28: Unloading of cargoes from vessels at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port resumed on Sunday after a recess of almost six days.
Container handling at the port jetties remained almost normal but delivery of cargoes from the port was disturbed due to intermittent rains over the past week.
Because of heavy downpour coupled with rough weather since Tuesday last the unloading of cargoes from larger vessels had remained suspended until Saturday night.
There had been no rain since Sunday morning and the sky had been almost clear which helped lighterage vessels to start discharge of cargoes.
Director (admin) of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Zafar Alam said work resumed in full swing through 11 vessels at the outer anchorage, 10 vessels at the port jetties and eight vessels at the river moorings and special berths at the Chittagong Container Terminal on Sunday morning.
The lighterage vessels had reached the mother vessels, he said. 13 vessels with wheat, sugar, chick peas, soybean oil, cement clinker and other commodities had been waiting for discharging at the outer for five days, he added.
Vessels longer than 190 metres and having a draft of more than 9.0 metres cannot enter the jetties of the port and they anchor at the outer anchorage of the port.
