Ctg port, Penang port to sign MoU for bilateral tech co-op

CHITTAGONG, Nov 28: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between Chittagong Port (CP) and Penang Port for establishing infrastructural and technological cooperation between the two important harbours of Bangladesh and Malaysia.
Malaysian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Abdul Malek Bin Abdul Aziz expressed his optimism when he called on Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President (in-charge) at the Chamber House auditorium recently.
Referring to exchange of trade delegations between the two countries, the Malaysian high commissioner said it would help the Malaysian entrepreneurs get themselves acquainted with the overall investment climate persisting in Bangladesh.
With a view to expanding the mutual trading relation, he informed the CCCI chief that the potential businessmen of Chittagong would be provided with three years' visas to visit Malaysia.
CCCI President (in-charge) MA Latif said an excellent diplomatic and trading relation already exists between the two brotherly countries.
Pointing out the potentials of bilateral trade, he requested the high commissioner to undertake initiatives to import Bangladeshi goods at an enhanced rate.
MA Latif said Malaysia has achieved tremendous progress in design and production of furniture items in recent times.
The CCCI president expressed his hope that utilising cheap workforce of Bangladesh, joint-venture furniture industry might be set up to export different items after meeting the local needs of the country.
