Sunday, 23 November 2014

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina said Saturday her government has decided to set up two more medical universities in Rajshahi and Chittagong to provide better healthcare services among the people, report agencies.
"We've already decided that we will set up two more medical universities in Chittagong and Rajshahi. The orders have already been issued."
The PM said this while addressing the inaugural function of the newly-constructed outdoor complex at the BSMMU in the city Saturday.
Sheikh Hasina urged all concerned at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to demonstrate enough efficiency through research works and sincerity to provide improved and better services among the patients.
She said BSMMU is the country's only medical university where students and researchers could carry out research activities alongside attaining higher education on medicines.
She mentioned that the BSMMU is being developed as a centre of excellence where an Autism centre has been set up for the autistic children while a Palliative Care unit for marginal patients in the death bed. Besides, a bachelor course has already been introduced at the BSMMU for further modernising Nursing Education, Hasina said.
She said all the medical colleges would be affiliated under the medical universities in their respective regions.
Sheikh Hasina said she has already directed the authorities concerned to take steps for transforming the country's over 500-beded hospitals into medical colleges.
