Ctg restaurants charging excess for food items

CHITTAGONG, Nov 27: Some restaurant owners of the port city are still realising excess prices on different food items despite decline in prices of some essential items including rice, wheat and oil. Consumers are yet to get the benefit of lowering price level.
Most of the restaurants are charging excess and unjustified price while concerned authorities seem to be quite indifferent to taking any effective step in this respect, sources said.
Customers are reportedly harassed by the employees and owners of the restaurants if they object to the excess price of any cooked item like rice, fish, mutton, beef, vegetables and others.
Prices of different essential items including rice, soyabean oil, onion have already been reduced but the local restaurant owners hardly bother about the reduced price level and are still realising excess price.
Price of a plate of rice is Tk.10. Tk 100 to 150 is being realised for a single piece of cooked sea fish item. The greedy restaurant owners do not hesitate to realise Tk.80 to 100 for a plate of small fish items.
A boiled egg is being sold at no less than Tk. 12. Thousands of restaurant are scattered in different parts of the port city and inspectors hardly visit those establishments to check the quality of food items served there.
