Ctg to go for smart street lighting

CHATTOGRAM, July 07: The Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) is going to implement a project at a cost of Tk 260 crore to modernise the street lighting system in the port city.
The project will be implemented with the loan assistance from the government of India. Indian company Sapurji Pallonji & Company Pvt Ltd has got the project work.
The CCC signed an agreement with the Sapurji Pallonji & Company at Radison Blu Hotel here on Saturday for implementation of the project.
CCC Mayor Alhaj Rezaul Karim Chowdhury presided over the function. Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam was present as chief guest while Secretary of the ministry Abu Hena Morshed Zaman as special guest.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma also attended the function.
Lawmaker Abdus Salam, CDA Chairman Bir Mukti Joddha Mohammad Yunus, Zilla Parishad Chairman ATM Pearul Islam, Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, Divisional Commissioner Tofail Islam, DIG of Chattogram Range Nur Alam Meena, Indian Assistant High Commissioner to Chattogram Dr Rajeev Ranjan, WASA Managing Director Engineer AKM Fazlullah, CCC Secretary Mohammad Ashraful Amin, Project Director Engineer Jhulan Kumar Das and senior officials of different organisations were present at the signing ceremony.
Addressing the function, Tajul said, "There is misinformation about the Bangladesh-India relations in the minds of some people here. Propaganda is spread and such propaganda has been going on since the era of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."
Agreements are signed between the two countries for their bilateral benefits. They benefit the people of both the countries, he explained.
Speaking on the occasion, Pranay Verma said, "Modern technology-based city streetlight management will be developed in Chattogram region through implementation of this project. This will be a step for Chattogram to become a smart city."
It will use eco-friendly, low energy consumption LED lights. The project will be completed within the stipulated time with maximum efficiency, he added.
"Bangladesh is India's largest and most important development partner. Just a few days ago, during the visit of the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh to India, the two countries reached a consensus on green partnership."
"We will work together to create an environment-friendly, sustainable, integrated and beautiful future for both the countries. We aim to reduce carbon emissions, increase fuel efficiency and protect the environment."
In his address, Rezaul said, "As many as 466 kilometres of roads are going to be illuminated through the project. As a result, the safety and comfort of the city-dwellers will increase and there will be a revolutionary change in the urban landscape."
