Ctg transport owners call off strike after 11 hours

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 08 (UNB): Transport owners withdrew their strike in 14 districts of Chattogram division on Sunday evening after 11 hours as the authorities concerned assured them of meeting their demands.
The leaders of 'Gono o Panya Paribahan Malik-Oikya Parishad' called off the strike when Chattogram City Corporation mayor AJM Nasir Uddin assured them of fulfilling their demands at 5:00 pm, said Awami League leader and convenor of the association Manjurul Alam Manju.
The body of transport owners enforced the strike at 6:00 am to realise their 9-point demand.
Buses or trucks were off the road in Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban, Noakhali, Cumilla, Feni and Laxmipur, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
The Oikya Parishad leaders had given a 72-hour ultimatum on Sept 04 to meet their demands.
