Ctg WASA realises Tk 3.6m as fine

CHITTAGONG, Oct 06: On charge of pilfering and misuse of water and non-payment of revenue Chittagong WASA realised a sum of Taka 3.6 million as fine during the month of September last. As many as 39 residential, commercial and industrial organisations were penalised, concerned sources said.
At the same time, 19 acres of land of Chittagong WASA worth Taka 500 million which had been lying under unauthorised occupation was also recovered during the period.
Chittagong WASA Magistrate Md. Munir Chowdhury in collaboration with the Engineering and Revenue Department of WASA and police forces of CMP conducted drives in different areas of the city in the last month.
Chittagong WASA mobile team unearthed illegal activities like pilfering of water through installing illegal connections, using deep tube wells without payment of revenue, payment of bills at commercial buildings at domestic rate, changing of WASA lines in secret manner and using WASA water indiscriminately while constructing multi-storied buildings.
On the other hand, five officials and employees were fined Tk. 0.1 million for their involvement in assisting offenders in revenue dodging.
