Ctg WASA unearths pilferage of 375m litres of water

CHITTAGONG, Nov 21: Sensational incidents of pilferage of 375 million litres of water of Chittagong WASA (C'WASA) have been unearthed during last two days in the city, sources said.
A C'WASA team led by Magistrate Munir Chowdhury, in anti-crime drives in the port city's Arakan Road, Sheikh Mujib Road and Strand Road areas, detected the incidents.
According to the sources, incidents of pilfering of huge quantity of water through installing 200-feet pipe in the underground of GK Steel Mills at Arakan Road was unearthed and two persons of the mill including its supervisor were arrested in his connection.
On the other hand, Hotel Zaman at Strand Road was also found pilfering water through illegal connection.
Meanwhile, another incident of illegal connection of water was discovered in a four-storey building owned by one Yakub Ali at Sheikh Mujib Road in the city's Agrabad area.
Three organisations were fined Tk 0.55 million and three motors were seized by the C'WASA team.
