CTO summit ends

The commonwealth telecom summit concluded Wednesday in the capital with a call for greater inclusion of the marginalised and unconnected people under the telecom network to eliminate the ICT disparity.
The attending telecom experts and policy makers made the demand at the concluding ceremony of the three-day high-level telecom forum of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO).
"Mainstreaming the marginalised and the people with disabilities is no longer human right, It has become our responsibility", CTO Secretary General Prof Tim Unwin said while making the concluding remarks of the forum.
CTO Chairperson Juma Kandie chaired the concluding session. State Minister for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak addressed the event as chief guest.
Among others, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose spoke on the occasion.
A total of 101 representatives including experts, policy makers and analysts from 32 CTO member countries excluding Bangladesh attended the various technical sessions.
The CTO secretary general applauded Bangladesh saying that the country is doing immense development in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) like significant growth in 3G services penetration.
Terming the ICT sector as a major driver for the country's development, Mr Zunaid Ahmed Palak called upon the commonwealth nations to join hands in this connection.
He also stressed on public-private partnership, regional and international cooperation to address the potential challenges like cyber security and greater inclusion of the unconnected people.
