CU concerned about factional clashes

CHITTAGONG, May 17: The authority of Chittagong University has expressed deep concern over the incidents of Monday that resulted in the postponement of examinations in the CU. The CU Syndicate met in an emergency meeting Tuesday morning with Vice-chancellor of the university Dr Md Alauddin in the chair. The Syndicate expressed grave concern at the attack on a group of students belonging to the pro-government students' organization Bangladesh Chatra League by another group in the CU-bound shuttle train near Jhautala Station and other places. The disciplinary committee also asked the CU authority to take punitive actions against those responsible for the incidents. A 10-member committee has been constituted with syndicate member and professor of Zoology of the CU Nurul Anwar as its head to investigate Monday's incidents, CU officials said. The authority asked the students to lodge their demands and complaints with the proper authority in future so that their real problems are solved. Representatives of the feuding students of the BCL withdrew their seige programme at the assurance of the CU authority. Authority said CU classes and examinations will be held on schedule from tomorrow (Wednesday).
