CU facing teachers crisis

CHITTAGONG, March 18: Normal academic programme of the University is being seriously hampered as a large number of teachers of Chittagong University (CU) are on long term leaves.
Moreover, teachers staying at the station also refrain from taking the scheduled classes on different pleas frequently, concerned quarters alleged.
Concerned sources said, out of a total number of 676 teachers, 125 were staying abroad on leave under different terms. Due to absence of teachers, students were not able to complete their syllabus on the one hand and extent of session jam was also increasing alarmingly, on the other.
Besides hampering academic career of the students, such an unhealthy trend ultimately have an adverse effect on the students' future career building. In this connection, conscious quarters blamed the irregularities, negligence and mismanagement of present administration and the political appointed Vice Chancellor of the University.
On the other hand, guardians community have expressed grave concern on the circumstance they created and observed that the prevailing trend, unless resisted, may put the academic career of their children to uncertainty. They called for adopting strict measures for bringing back the teachers after completing their studies, research work and training programme abroad and frame the rules in such a manner so that the teachers after completion of their assignment abroad are encouraged to come back and join the university for the greater interest of the students in particular and the nation as a whole.
In this connection, despite several attempts to contact the Vice Chancellor of the CU over phone to obtain his opinion on the matter, no comment was received from his side.
