CU teachers observe work abstention

The teachers of Chittagong University (CU) on Sunday observed a three-hour work abstention protesting the proposed eighth pay scale.
Chittagong University Teachers' Association (CUTA) observed the work abstention starting from 10 am to 1 pm.
However, examinations remained out of purview of the protest programme, a news agency report said.
CUTA president Dr Mohammad Abul Monsur and General Secretary Dr Kazi SM Khasrul Alam Kuddusi thanked the teachers for participating in the protest programme that has been continuing for more than three months.
The CUTA leaders termed the pay scale "discriminatory" and sought intervention of the prime minister to press home their demands.
Mentionable, public university teachers throughout Bangladesh observe three-hour work abstention on every Sunday demanding a separate pay scale for them.
Their other demands are same salary and allowance for senior [selection grade] professors as senior secretaries and same pay scale for professors and secretaries, ensuring university teacher's status in accordance with their expected pay scale in the state's warrant of precedence, provision of cars and other allowances for them like the bureaucrats.
