CU VC dies

CHITTAGONG, Nov 29: Chittagong University vice chancellor Professor Abu Yusuf passed away at Chittagong Medical College Hospital Sunday night at the age of 67.
Prof Yusuf has left behind his daughter, wife and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
The university authority has announced a three-day mourning programme as part of which all classes and examinations were suspended today. The students and teachers of the CU will observe two-day mourning on the campus Tuesday and Wednesday, officials said.
The first Namaj-e-Janaja of Dr Yusuf was held in front of the CU central mosque on the campus and the second was held at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque in the city. He was buried in the CU campus graveyard.
Minister for primary and mass education Dr Afsarul Ameen, city mayor M Manjur Alam, DU VC professor AAMS Arefin Siddiqui, pro-VC of CU Dr M Alauddin, CU teachers association leaders, president-in-charge of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry MA Salam and leaders of different political and socio-cultural forums condoled his death and expressed sympathy for members of the bereaved family.
