CHATTOGRAM, Sept 14: The Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and hall union elections will be held on October 12 - after long 35 years of the previous polls in 1990. As per the election schedule, distribution of nomination forms began on Sunday.
On the opening day, 26 aspirants for the CUCSU and two for hall unions collected nomination forms. The vice-president (VP) post of the central body drew the highest interest, with seven candidates collecting forms.

According to the schedule, nomination forms could be collected on September 14. Both collection and submission will take place on September 15 and 16, while September 17 is reserved exclusively for submission. The CUCSU comprises 28 posts, while each hall union has 16.
Political parties and students are gearing up for the long-awaited CUCSU and hall union elections. A total of 27,634 students are eligible to cast their votes.
Dr Monir Uddin, Chief Election Commissioner and Professor of Chemistry Department, told The Financial Express, "A festive atmosphere is prevailing on the campus for the CUCSU elections. We thought that the turnout would be relatively low, as it was the first working day of the week. But the response exceeded our expectations. We expect more students would come forward in the next few days."
The last CUCSU elections were held on Feb 8, 1990. Despite a few rounds of discussions over the years, no voting took place. Since the university was founded in 1966, the CUCSU elections were held only six times.
