FE Report | Friday, 18 July 2008

Bolstering the cultural exchange between Bangladesh and China can be an effective way for strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two countries, said China's Charge d'Affaires in Bangladesh Wang Yu Wednesday.

His remark came on the eve of launching a book titled "China: Contrasting Contours" authored by Raana Haider at Bangladeash Enterprise Institute (BEI).

President of BEI Farooq Sobhan, eminent writer Hasnat Abdul Hye and Managing Director of University Press Limited (UPL) Mohiuddin Ahmed were also present on the occasion.

"The key behind China's colossus achievement in recent decades was the integration of harmonious ideas of the country's traditional philosophy with the policy of opening up," Wang Yu observed, adding "the Sino-Bangladesh tie is rooted deep into the history and has been boosted significantly in recent years,"

Describing Raana Haider's work as a unique insight into the life and tradition of China as well as a precise guide to the Bangladeshis willing to know about the country; Wu also hailed the use of the 'Bird's Nest' stadium; the opening venue for the upcoming Beijing Olympics '08 in it's front cover.

BEI President Farooq Sobhan in his speech said that the works of Raana Haider deserves special acknowledgment as she is a lifelong traveler being the daughter as well as spouse of diplomats.
