Current education system only generates unemployment: Jabbar

Sunday, 7 January 2018

Telecommunications and IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar says Bangladesh will face the huge challenge of joblessness if it does not drastically overhaul the current education system, reports bdnews24.com.
In his address to the silver jubilee celebrations of the Greater Mymensingh Cultural Forum at the Public Library in the capital, Mustafa Jabbar said the system is a conveyor belt of unemployed youths.
"Our traditional education system has become a factory of producing unemployed youths. We will not be able to generate jobs for our children in the days ahead with the current system of education," said the IT entrepreneur who was inducted into the cabinet a few days ago.
He emphasised bringing radical reforms to the education system including revising the textbooks and changing the procedure of imparting lessons in classrooms,
"Our children are talented. If we cannot nurture that talent, then we all have to take the blame for the failure," added the minister, who was also president of the forum.
He thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for making him a minister.
"Until 1:29pm on Jan 1, I had no idea that I could be made a minister. When I became a minister, I thought what responsibilities I would be given. My thanks to the prime minister again for giving me responsibility to do something that I have been doing for 30 years."
