Curtain comes down on BUPIMUN

With the theme ‘Fostering the Economy Through Technological Advancement to Tackle Post-Pandemic Catastrophe’, BUP Global Affairs Council (BUPGAC) arranged the sixth edition of its hallmark event ‘BUP International Model United Nations Conference 2021’. The three-day conference started on February 10 and ended on February 12, having 300 students from 27 colleges and universities around Bangladesh and 10 delegates from six different nations. The conference had eight committees to discuss eight contemporary issues and their relevant solutions.
The curtain came down on this international conference on February 12 at Bijoy Auditorium of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) campus. The event was organised by BUPGAC under the supervision of the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS).
The closing ceremony was held in the presence of Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni as the chief guest. BUP Vice-Chancellor Major General Md Moshfequr Rahman attended the conference as the special guest. Other military officials and guests were also present in the ceremony.
The event started with a video documentary of BUPIMUN 2021 briefly, followed by the welcome address of the Secretary-General Md Nazmul Hasan Swapan. After that, the special guest and the chief guest addressed the audience and adorned the awardees with crests and medals.
From the eight committees, the best performers got individual awards. Jhenaidah Cadet College was awarded the "Best Delegation Award" for bagging the highest number of awards from an institution.
In her speech, the chief guest said, "I wish that the young generation of our country are enlightened with not only bookish knowledge but also about all the global issues and current affairs, so that they can create a better world for not only them but also for the generations to come."
She further added, "The practice of negotiation, knowledge about diplomacy, and sharing thoughts and ideas is a prerequisite to achieving that and coming to a unified resolution for the betterment of all. This is what platforms like MUNs provide and these are crucial for the overall development of future leaders for the world."
With the utmost dedication and efforts to make a difference in the world, BUPGAC successfully conducted this event in person for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, tackling the sensitivity of the pandemic concerns by maintaining social distancing norms and taking necessary precautions in the interest of all individuals involved. They aim to continue this for years to come by providing young individuals and future leaders a platform to boost their intellect through networking, debating, and negotiating.
