Custodial death: 2 Khulna cops to face music

A police probe panel has recommended taking action against the officer-in-charge (Investigation) and a constable of Dumuria Police Station in Khulna over the death of a medicine trader in police custody. The 3-member investigation committee formed by the Khulna Range DIG office submitted its report to DIG SM Moniruzzaman on Thursday afternoon. The panel recommended taking action against Inspector Kazi Kamal Hossain and constable Sirajul Islam for their dereliction of duty over the incident, said additional DIG Didar Ahmed who headed the panel. Medicine trader Tushar Kanti Paul, 42, jumped off the first floor of the police super’s office here on November 15, claimed police. He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after some time. However, family members claimed that Tushar jumped from the SP office after being failed to bear police torture and humiliation. The DIG office formed a three-man probe body while the district police a four-member one to look into the incident, according to a news agency.
