FE Report | Tuesday, 22 May 2018

Customs Intelligence (CI) officials on Monday seized 795.5 grammes of gold worth Tk 3.98 million from two passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The officials recovered the gold bars from the two passengers who arrived at the airport from Saudi Arabia around 4:30 pm on the day, a CI press release said.
The two passengers were identified as Md Dadon Mina and Md Monir Hossain. They hail from Munshiganj.
The two were carrying the bars in their handbags and wallets. Necessary legal steps were taken in this regard.
However, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) in two separate drives seized imported products from two covered vans on charge of misusing the bonded facility, a press release said.
Acting on a tip-off, Chattogram regional office of the directorate conducted a drive at Oxygen Intersection in the port city about 5:00 pm on Sunday and another at Bhatiary on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway the following day.
As part of its ongoing drive against the misuse of bonded facility, the directorate seized the products as the importers failed to show legal documents in this regard. The total value of seized products with customs duty is estimated to be around Tk 6.0 million.
