CHITTAGONG, Feb 15: The customs authority has sent the sample of goods, imported from China by a local enterprise, to their lab for test.
They have also written the importer and their C&F agents about the materials imported under false declaration.
Four containers of an import consignment declared as plastic net thread raw material were found loaded with sand-like grains after the customs officials opened the boxes at Chittagong port.
A total of 2,720 sacks stuffed with sand weighing 67 tonnes were found as the customs officials opened the boxes on suspicion at the yard of Chittagong port on Wednesday afternoon. RSD Enterprise at Gani Mansion on the Biren Bose Street in Dhaka brought the consignment from China.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House Shakil Khandakar said the importer had paid customs duty worth Tk 1.957 million on imported raw material worth US$ 70,380 or Tk 6.274 million.
The authority is yet to ascertain if it was a deception of the supplier in China or any bid of money laundering by the importer, he said, adding that the containers have been seized and legal actions will follow after getting test report.
