C'WASA subscribers deprived of adequate water supply

CHITTAGONG, Nov 25: Speakers at a round table were alleged that 85 per cent of residential subscribers of Chittagong WASA were being deprived of adequate water supply and other facilities. Moreover, they were being harassed at every step.
Speakers made such a comments in the roundtable discussion on 'problems in service of Chittagong WASA: means to overcoming' organised by the Sachetan Nagorik Commitee (alliance of conscious citizenry), Chittagong in collaboration with the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) recently.
The meeting was told that a survey was conducted to detect different problems relating to the services of the organisation and means to their solution. The aim of the survey was to enhance the quality of services offered the C'WASA.
The report showed that at the time of obtaining fresh connection from the C'WASA, middlemen were reportedly being involved with the task.
Middlemen are mostly the insiders of the organisation. Subscribers have to pay big amounts as service charge to those middlemen.
The speakers placed some recommendations including assurance of adequate water supply, reducing harassment while taking fresh connection, maintaining transparency at the organisational structure of the C'WASA, introducing one-stop service and installing complaint and advice box to resist irregularities, mismanagement and corruption.
Robiul Hossain, Subhash Barua, Rehena Kabir Ranu, Md Delwar Hossain, Akter Kabir and AQM Sirajul Islam, among others, participated in the discussion.
