CZM provides around Tk 1m to families of 29 uprising martyrs

FE REPORT | Thursday, 19 December 2024

The Center for Zakat Management (CZM), a non-government organisation (NGO), has handed over nearly Tk 1 million to the families of 29 people, who embraced martyrdom during the student-led mass uprising in the months of July and August this year.
The CZM provided the financial assistance under its 'Insaniyat-- Emergency Humanitarian Assistance' programme, according to a statement.
Three women received Tk 391,000, an amount that was set as the denmohor, but was scheduled to be paid at a later time by the husbands martyred during the movement. Denmohor is an Islamic ritual, which obligates a husband to pay his wife, expectedly at the time of the marriage.
Moreover, three other families have been provided with Tk 215,000 for their loan repayments. Additionally, CZM provided financial support, food assistance, and monthly educational scholarships for the children of 23 martyrs' families.
